Val was born into a Christian family in Flint, Michigan. His parents were both very active in church. Val came to place his trust in Christ as his personal Savior early in life and was baptized soon after. He graduated from Central Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Social Work degree. During post undergraduate study, he was employed as a family therapist in Saginaw, Michigan for several years. During that time he met his future wife, Tina (of 40 years) on a church retreat. Soon after marrying, they moved to Dallas for Val to pursue a solid Bible education at Dallas Theological Seminary, with thoughts of him pursuing a career in Christian counseling. During seminary, while employed as a Youth and Music pastor, Val decided that God was leading him into full-time pastoral ministry rather than Christian counseling.

And the rest is history. For the past 30 years, Val has served in various pastoral roles – Youth Pastor, Singles Pastor, Worship Pastor, Executive Pastor, and Senior Pastor – at three different churches: South Church in Lansing, Michigan; Meadow Creek Community Church in Mesquite, Texas; and since 2003, Community Bible Church in Manassas, Virginia.

Val loves serving in the Northern Virginia area with its rich, cultural diversity within easy distance of Washington D.C., the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Atlantic Ocean.
